What is Rot's identity arc, and why did I make it rot?

something I can easily answer: because I see myself in her.

Rot is like a cry for help when I was a child (where it was worse, I'm more empty about it now). I was compared to my mother, brothers, dad, my late grandmother, and even my own YOUNGER cousin a lot. While I don't hold any ill-will for any of these people it was still hard as a heavily traumatized child growing up.



I thought that for me to be liked more, I'd have to be more like any of these people. I'd get upset when my jokes weren't as funny as either of my brothers, when me being 'a leader' was called me being bossy, when me trying to play more games was looked at sideways, and more. I don't see a lot of anything discuss the issues that could cause anyone...

So I decided: "why not just write it myself?" be the change you wanna see and allat... Out of all my ocs, Rot seemed the best option because of the fact he's based off an existing character... and only resembles him via skull structure. (in PV, anyway.) Plus, this is an Au where the characters KNOW they are born off of his code. They know they aren't the "original" ...well, many had to learn that to be in the timeline, but you know..



Rot is the most online and indoors oc I have. Which is another thing separating them both... Sans goes outside often, as we see in both games. He's not inside often, and when he is, I'm sure he rarely goes into his room. He may be depressed, but he's the type of depressed person to walk outside anyway with the thought of "no use trapping myself"..... something rot doesn't think at all when staying inside her room.



Rot does go outside, I can't lie. He does! However, he mostly goes outside with Dollie, faker, fem, or because of other things; like a new manga he cant buy online, or a new cafe he MUST go to, etc. Nerd things, not to just breathe the air and not rot (heh) in bed. Most days he's in his room just sitting there, staring at a screen and trying to ignore every classic related video on the mutli-web.



If it weren't for one person saying that rot reminds them of alphys, this probably wouldn't have happened... but. i love angst. and i love projecting onto ocs.. so!!!!



Rot DOES act more like an 'alphys' than a 'sans'. This isn't because she didn't know a sans-type; actually, she knew many. But... trying to be 'lazy' like him, trying to be ANYTHING like him... it didn't feel right. Liking anime, and being on the internet sounded way better than liking ketchup ("eyuck!") or hotdogs. Nothing against those who like either, but... hmm, for Rot, it just wasn't it.



Of course, rot does still have aspects of a 'sans': liking a condiment, napping, being a (retired) scientist, being smart... etc., etc. Rot likes jackets, but isn't really a blue kind of guy. Rot also likes slippers, but isn't into ones that bland-- It's a whole thing. Rot does wish that he was closer to being a sans besides that. I mean, he even has a 'signature laugh'-What sans has a signature laugh?!



...maybe I'm going off the rails... anyways.



Rots whole arc is just me projecting, basically.

Rot has identity issues from being called sans (whenever he did wear 'The Jacket" :tm:) from a younger age to even adult life. Rot's name has never been "sans" in lore or even out of it. I used "lover sans" once and hated it, never again. I put 'sans' in quotation marks in TH because of this fact too. Rots aversion to being called sans has been with her since she was made and I wont change that.

Rot tries making an identity for himself but not a lot of people actually remember it. Kind of like me, but instead of family being understanding it was strangers (like you.) Because sans is more popular, rot will never truly be just him. He will be "sa- no,, rot!", "Lover Sans, right?", "Are you this AU's sans?", "A Sans.. which au are you from?", etc.



That name haunts him terribly. He has classic blocked on many places, even classic papyrus.



...What? You think that just because I haven't mentioned papyruses yet that I forgot about Dottie? No. Dottie also deals with being called someone she isn't, its just the fact she cares less about it. Of course it would get to her, but its not something she would speedwalk away from. Just politely says "no" with a frown and introduces herself with a scolding of "not assuming". The reason why is because she's seen how much it ruins Rot, and doesn't want anyone else feeling that way.



██████ would just be harsh to you. Hehe.

Rot is for all mentally ill people who had to deal with being compared to others and called different names for years. Arise, for your time as come!
